About
Margo Wagner (she/her) is an emerging cantor who earned her Master’s of Sacred Music and is expecting ordination from the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music of Hebrew Union College (HUC) in May of 2026.
Before cantorial school, Margo worked as an Education Fellow for the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life ( ISJL) in Jackson, Mississippi. The ISJL is a non-profit organization that strives to connect, support, and celebrate Jewish life in the South.
Margo Wagner grew up in the small ski town of Aspen, Colorado. There, she cultivated her love for music, skiing, and participating in Shabbat services at Aspen Jewish Congregation. During summers growing up, Margo attended Jewish sleep away camp. She loved her time as a camper and eventually became a song leader at both Camp Shwayder in Colorado and Greene Family Camp in Texas. Margo graduated from Indiana University in 2019 with a B.A in Jewish Sacred Music and a minor in Hebrew.
Margo’s time at HUC has been filled with rich learning and experiences. Her passion and dedication for the Hebrew language is ever growing and led her to complete a 7-week immersive Hebrew program at Middlebury college. This past summer (2025), Margo completed a summer intensive unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. She is currently working as the student cantor, and as the sole cantorial presence, at West End Temple in Neponsit, NY. During her time at HUC, Margo has been honored to receive the Compassionate Cantor Prize, Alumni Association Prize, The Temple Israel Boston Prize for Worthy Student, and the Cantor Edward R. Fogel Prize in Vocal Development/Progress.
In Margo’s spare time, she enjoys skiing, playing card games, tennis, and spending quality time with friends and family. She is looking forward to creating connections with her future congregants through her music and her love of Jewish prayer.
